Students able to learn about opportunities at SA Senate

Do you have what it takes to make change at NIU?
The Student Association is looking for students in good academic standing with a GPA above 2.5 to run for a position in the SA Senate.
SA Senate Speaker James Zanayed said being a senator is great experience for students.
“We encourage anyone and everyone interested in Senate to get involved,” Zanayed said. “We’re looking for someone who’s going to be dedicated to change and our campus.”
Mike Theodore, SA chief of staff, said to get students involved the SA will hold informational meetings where students can learn more about Senate, the legislative branch of the SA.
“The first step is to get candidates,” Theodore said. “After that it’s up to them to go to events and be good candidates and campaign.”
Elections will be held on Sept. 24 and 25, and all students with a OneCard can vote in the elections.
Though the Senate’s role is to serve NIU’s student body, Zanayed said there are also personal benefits for students if they are elected.
“It’s something great to put on your resume when you graduate, and that’s really the goal for all students,” Zanayed said. “It’s a great leadership position and a great way of getting involved and making the community a better place.”
