Department curator acquires rare books for NIU collection

The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections has acquired the manuscripts of science fiction and fantasy author Lois McMaster Bujold.

The acquisition was the first of several expected installments from Bujold, a five-time Hugo award winner. The donation includes Bujold’s early and final drafts, proofs and foreign editions of her books, among other things.

“This is the most significant acquisition of science fiction and fantasy manuscripts we have made thus far, in terms of critical and award recognition and name recognition,” said Lynne Thomas, curator of the department.

Thomas has been working to obtain the collection for eight years, according to NIU.
