House Cafe to put on Star Wars tribute show
May 1, 2013
Local Star Wars fans will unite to celebrate the famous May 4, which is also known as “May the fourth be with you” day.
Liquid Karma Productions will host its Star Chords: May the 4th Be With You show at 9 p.m. Saturday at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway.
The headlining bands for the show are Ethereal Groove Inc. (E.G.I.), Brainchild and Gurg. In the spirit of the Star Wars theme, at least one band, Gurg, will try to keep the crowd entertained with a Star Wars spin.
“We are going to cover at least one or two songs from the soundtracks and will be wearing costumes,” said Gurg guitarist Sean McCauley. “We have a couple of goofy things planned.”
Steve Contreras, E.G.I. manager and the event’s planner, said it’s convenient May 4 is a Saturday this year. He said the night will consist of improvisational rock music that will revolve around the Star Wars theme.
Admission for the show is $10 at the door, though tickets are only $5 to those dressed as Star Wars characters.
Regardless of how many Star Wars enthusiasts may take the series fandom to the next level, the event will also welcome those who just want to get together and hang out at the House.
Contreras said the House Cafe’s image was perfect for a gimmicky Star Wars dressup party, and he hopes the event will let the audience members come and listen to great music.
Local art vendors will be at the event, including those who sell hula hoops, modify clothing and those who create glass sculptures. The hula hoop vendor, Circular Energy, will be the featured seller at the event.
“I’m curious to see how this turns out, and I think it’ll be a lot of fun,” Contreras said. “It’ll be a nice icebreaker to dress up like Chewbacca.
