Studs a must in modern fashion
April 16, 2013
Fashion statements are everything to designers–that’s how they market products and get people to fall in love with their clothes.
Each collection begins with a designer picking a certain pattern or idea to inspire the entire line. Like many designers, that’s how I go about choosing my favorite item of the week. I find an idea or a reoccurring trend, pattern or designer, and it sparks an intrigue to learn more about that favorite item.
Back in the 1980s, rocker chic used to be big in the fashion industry. People liked to wear tight leather pants, acid-washed jeans, cut-off jean jackets with all sorts of embellishments; best of all was the huge hair trend.
The greatest thing that came out of this fashion era has to be the metal studs. Back in the day, band members of KISS wore the stud trend like it was nobody’s business. Every piece of KISS’s clothing seemed to be covered by studs and spikes. This was a bit overdone, but they wanted people to know what they were–a hardcore rule-breaking metal band. The studs trend stuck and now even today designers are bringing the 80’s back to mainstream fashion.
I can’t lie, I love the stud trend. I even bought myself a jean jacket vest with rows of studs lining the front shoulder area from Forever 21. I also purchased studded army green shoes from Target. I’ve gotten several compliments on both of these items.
At first the studs trend didn’t catch my eye since I’d only seen heavy metal rockers wearing them. But slowly the studs and I sparked a lovely relationship. Now I no longer see them as something that makes you look harsh and unapproachable, but rather fashionable.
Studs are just so versatile. Designers have been putting them on everything for a reason. Nothing is off limits this season. This includes items like hats, shoes, pants and jackets and even accessories like bras and corsets.
Designers like Jeffrey Campbell have made the stud popular for feet by making spiked and studded shoes.
Celebrities have even owned this trend: They’re being spotted wearing studded jackets and handbags by various designers.
Whether you already embrace the growing trend or you aren’t quite sure about it, I suggest you give it a try. You never know, you might be like me and fall absolutely in love with studs.
