Baseball prepares for Ohio matchup

By Brian Earle

Following a midweek 19-0 loss to Bradley on Tuesday and a rainout with UIC on Wednesday, baseball will return to MAC action this weekend.

The Huskies will take on Ohio in Athens for a three-game series.

The key for the Huskies (14-20, 9-3 MAC) will be its starting pitching. Freshman Jordan Ruckman is coming off his first collegiate win.

Junior Eli Anderson has been one of the hottest pitchers in college baseball, winning his last four starts, which have ended in complete games. Anderson was also named the MAC West Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.

Junior Alex Klonowski has been a strong pitcher at the back end of the rotation for the Huskies, as he has pitched 59 innings, the second-most on the team.

Offensively, the Huskies have been led by juniors Jeff Zimmerman and Klonowski. Zimmerman leads the team with 43 hits and 19 RBI’s while Klonowski has recorded 38 hits and 18 RBI’s.

Ohio has struggled as it is in last place in the MAC East. It is coming off a MAC series loss to Akron in which it lost two out of three games.

The Bobcats’ big hitter is sophomore Jake Madsen, who leads the team with 46 hits and 24 RBIs’.

The Huskies have been hot in MAC play of late as they have won eight out of their last nine MAC games while sweeping two MAC series against Akron and Western Michigan.
