‘Dust: An Elysian Tale’ tells an amazing story

Who knew fighting monsters could be so beautiful?

Players have been struck by the beauty of “Dust: An Elysian Tail.” This game was an Xbox Arcade exclusive until recently, as it is now available for download on Steam. This indie game received a lot of attention when it was released on the market. It received this acclaim because of the fantastic scenes in the game. It makes sense: The game’s creator, Dean Dodrill, was originally making “Dust” as an animated movie.

The story takes place in a fantasy world where all the characters are anthropomorphic animals, which means they have human characteristics. This concept is reminiscent of Don Bluth films like “An American Tail” and “The Secret of NIMH.”

The main character, Dust, wakes up with no memory. Dust goes on his way to find out more about himself. He travels through this 2-D world while fighting monsters and beasts. He wields a sword called the Blade of Ahrah, and it helps him through his journey. The sword also makes it easy to take down enemies with a flurry of weapon attacks. Fidget, a small flying companion, joins Dust on his journey and can even send projectiles at enemies.

Controls for this game are great. They are so well done and easy that the player just has to press a few buttons to unleash a whirlwind of blows to enemies. You don’t learn many new attacks, but the controls are tight and fighting enemies who can be thrown in the air gives players a lot of enjoyment.

There are a number of RPG elements as you gain experience throughout the game. These elements range from slaying beasts and equipping different dropped items to slashing monsters with your newly acquired weapons. There are all kinds of puzzles and side quests to conquer as Dust travels across the land. This makes a player focus more on spot movement and solving difficult solutions than combat. As the player learns new abilities, he or she can return to previous areas to find new paths that were unreachable before. With all of these elements, a person could play “Dust: An Elysian Tail” for hours of fun and new challenges.

Some gamers may not be a fan of the story because the cut scenes can be lengthy. At the same time, the story is surprisingly deep and amazing, with some great added humor. This humor can especially be seen when Dust yells frantically at a player to mash the buttons when surrounded by enemies. The game offers all kinds of environments and beauty underlies every part of the game; it definitely absorbs you into gameplay.

“Dust: An Elysian Tail” is still available for the Xbox 360 for download, but Steam brings the game to the PC. “Dust: An Elysian Tail” is something enjoyable and fun that you should take a look into. Whether you’re a console or PC gamer, you’re sure to find something you love about the game.
