J.J. Abrams can breathe life into the Star Wars series
February 3, 2013
For many years, the Star Wars series has had a great effect on science fiction lovers of the world.
When the first movie was released in 1977, it was a huge hit. When filmmakers release the first prequel after the original trilogy–Episodes IV, V and VI–in 1999, Star Wars became even more of a phenomenon.
According to StatisticBrain.com, the series has made $27,000,000,000 in its years. This includes box office sales and sales of DVDs, toys, books, video games and more.
Just a few weeks ago, the franchise, which was sold to the Walt Disney Company for about $4.05 billion announced that J.J. Abrams, a creator of the hit sci-fi television show, “Fringe,” would direct a new film, Star Wars: Episode VII.
I personally don’t think I have much of a say on the debate, because I have not seen the films more than once. Although, after seeing one or two episodes of “Fringe,” I believe that Abrams might try to take his rendition of this classic story to an even more modernized, scientific approach.
There have been many disputes about this new film, but many are also excited about it, including the original creator, George Lucas.
“I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller,” Lucas said, according to StarWars.com. “He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”
The film is still in pre-production stages, but there is a rumored release date of 2015, according to the Internet Movie Database, IMDB.com. In the meantime, fans all over the world have their own opinions on the news.
