Twelve Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) fraternity members have court appearances in the next two weeks in regard to hazing charges related to the November 2012 death of freshman David Bogenberger.

All 22 members of the Pike fraternity charged in December 2012 have status hearings scheduled in February and March.

Five fraternity members with leadership positions were charged with felonies while the remaining 17 were charged with misdemeanors.

“The International Fraternity suspended Eta Nu Chapter’s charter on November 5th and it remains suspended,” said Justin True, director of communications and marketing for the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity international organization, in an email. “The International Fraternity is not involved with any of the allegations or proceedings of individual students or members.”

The scheduled court dates include Feb. 11, when four of the five fraternity leaders charged with felonies are scheduled for court.

Hearings are also set for Feb. 5, 13, 21, 26, and March 1, 5 and 25.

“The International Fraternity is not involved with any of the actions taken by NIU nor does it have the standing or authority to speak on the chapters’ or former members’ behalf,” True said in an email.

Paul Palian, NIU director of Media and Public Relations, said in an email that he was “not able to provide an update at this time” and that “the legal status of individuals is not within the scope of my ability to disclose.”
