The resignation of Kevin Hadsell, University of Toledo cross country and track coach, was announced Jan. 24. Today, The Blade, a Toledo-based newspaper, reported, “Copies of text messages obtained by The Blade through the Ohio open records act show Hadsell made advances toward an athlete in his program and interacted unprofessionally with her from September through January.”

Runner Emma Kertesz handed over the messages and other evidence to Toledo’s human resources department, leading to the resignation of Hadsell, according to The Blade.

In January, Hadsell, who had been the head coach at Toledo for 15 years, was reported to have resigned due to a violation of university rules.

Mike O’Brien, University of Toledo athletic director, said in a Jan. 24 news release that no NCAA rules were violated.

“We thank him [Hadsell] for his many contributions to the success of our cross country and track programs, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” O’Brien said in the news release.
