City Council to hold public hearing about Irongate

By Northern Star Staff

A public hearing will be held during the DeKalb City Council meeting today to hear citizen’s concerns in the Irongate annexation and development, according to the council’s posted agenda for the meeting.

The City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.

Irongate, a proposed residential development under the direction of ShoDeen, Inc., was last discussed at a special session of City Council on Jan. 29. During that meeting, the council, representatives from ShoDeen and the DeKalb School Board planned and offered revisions to the development plan, according to a Jan. 30 Northern Star article. The meeting ended with the groups agreeing to certain developmental solutions and the council allowing the extension of Normal Road to intersect Bethany Road to ease entrance into the subdivision.

The hearing is aimed at discussing the city’s action to move forward on the annexation of the land proposed for the project. To move forward, the city will have to annex and patriate a more than 300-acre parcel of land from DeKalb County into the city of DeKalb. The hearing will allow for citizens’ comments and questions on the matter.

The most recent plan from ShoDeen is ready to be presented formally to the council at its March 11 meeting, according to the release agenda.
