Add layers to your winter wardrobe
February 5, 2013
It may be hard to dress up for the cold, but that shouldn’t stop you from embracing your style.
It is all about layers upon layers during this cold time of the year. Having that extra motivation to dress up will keep you warmer when you walk to class or work.
Things on your to-do list can be manageable when you dress for the weather.
Some fun winter accessories to wear are hats, headbands, ear muffs, gloves, mittens and scarves. Lately, I have seen a lot of men and women wearing “glittens,” which are fingerless gloves with an added mitten flap to give your fingers warmth.
There are also a variety of gloves with finger tips made for touch-screen phones. This is convenient for not having to take off your gloves in order to text or call someone back.
The key to standing out in the cold is color. If you choose to wear a bright-colored coat, you can balance out accessories with a basic color or pattern. If you have a classic black winter coat, wearing some bright winter accessories makes your outerwear stand out in the winter white.
A coat that keeps you warm with a good fit and style is worth the investment. It is something that you wear every day and the first thing that people see you in during the colder months of the year.
Marlena Aleksiejczyk, junior business administration major and marketing minor, enjoys wearing her black winter coat with a pink hat, pink gloves, a black scarf and black boots with a fur trim.
“When I see someone on campus without a winter coat, I feel bad and want to offer them one,” Aleksiejczyk said.
With DeKalb wind and snow, it is worthwhile to bundle up.
“Just because you’re bundled up doesn’t mean you have to lose style,” Aleksiejczyk said.
Not only is winter wear important for everyday cold weather, but also for winter sports. When you’re outdoors, whether snowboarding, skiing, ice skating or sledding, layering will keep you active outdoors for a longer period of time.
Wearing the right outerwear and winter accessories will keep you warm and cozy inside and out. With a little time and effort in the morning, you can be dressed and prepared for the day’s weather and whatever tasks the day unfolds.
Stay warm with style.
