The following was taken directly from the University Police. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law. The University Police Department provides police reports on the Web at finfacil.niu.edu/PublicSafety.
On Dec. 11 at 10:45 a.m., an officer responded to the NIU Police Department in regard to a report of burglary to a motor vehicle. The officer met with the complainant and took a report. On Tuesday, the case was closed due to lack of leads.
On Dec. 11 at 10:31 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Graham Hall regarding a report of theft. The officer met with the complainant and took a report. On Tuesday, the case was closed due to a lack of leads.
At 10:48 a.m., officers responded to a motorist assist. The officers determined that the requestor had an active warrant for failure to appear on a traffic related offense. Chanel McKinnie, 20, was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
At 5:13 p.m., a person contacted the Police Department to report that a wallet was stolen in the Art Building. An investigation was started and it is currently pending.
At 9 p.m., officers were sent to New Hall East for a complaint of cannabis smell. After an investigation was done, a student was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
