Grammy nominees: Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Best Rock Album

By Kevin Bartelt

Now that Justin Bieber is grounded for shooting a Nerf gun at a security guard, it’s time to focus on musicians who can be taken seriously.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards air Feb. 10. According to MTV.com, these are the nominees for some of the categories:

Best New Artist

Fun.

Alabama Shakes

Frank Ocean

Hunter Hayes

The Lumineers

Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers are great, but not worthy of winning Best New Artist. This will be Frank Ocean versus Fun. It would not be a surprise if Fun. won Best New Artist, but it would be nice to see Frank Ocean snag this one.

Song of the Year

“The A Team” by Ed Sheeran

“Adorn” by Miguel

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

“Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson

“We Are Young” by Fun.

Surprisingly, the most watched video in YouTube history, “Gangnam Style,” was not nominated.

This will most likely be “We Are Young” versus “Call Me Maybe.” Both songs made a statement in 2012.

Best Rock Album

El Camino by The Black Keys

The 2nd Law by Muse

Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay

Blunderbuss by Jack White

Wrecking Ball by Bruce Springsteen

Hopefully, Grandpa Bruce can sit the next few plays out.

Although Jack White’s long-awaited Blunderbuss has been loved by many, this will be an impressive three-way battle between Muse, The Black Keys and Coldplay. May the best man win.
