Rifkin files suit against NIU
January 22, 2013
Andrew Rifkin, a former NIU police officer, has filed a lawsuit against NIU.
Paul Palian, NIU director of media and public relations, said it is not appropriate to comment on pending litigation.
In 2011, Rifkin was accused of sexually assaulting a student and was fired. The charges against Rifkin were dropped in November 2012 following a ruling from Judge Robbin Stuckert, who said NIU police failed to produce two key witness statements. Stuckert said it was a clear case of purposefully hiding information from the defense.
NIU Police Chief Donald Grady and Lt. Kartik Ramakrishnan were put on paid leave following Stuckert’s finding.
