Two bills of interest to higher education passed at the 97th General Assembly and were sent to the governor for his approval, according to an Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) memo.

One bill that was passed extends grant funds and the existence of grant programs administered by state agencies until June 30, according to IBHE. The General Assembly plans to review all programs during the Fiscal Year 2014 appropriations process, as part of the Budgeting for Results process.

Another bill passed makes changes to the equalization funding formula for community college districts, according to IBHE.

On Wednesday, a bipartisan group of House members announced the introduction of another pension reform bill, according to IBHE. At a press conference the sponsors of the bill explained their hopes of starting discussions to find a solution to the growing pension fund obligation crisis, according to IBHE.
