Movies to enjoy over Winter Break

Finals have only just begun, but you may already be thinking about all of the fun things you want to when the semester is finally over. If you’re a movie buff, think about going to see one or all of these films that hit theaters over break.
Playing for Keeps: Dec. 7
This romantic comedy starring Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel is about a former soccer star who is asked to coach his son’s soccer team. While coaching the team, he is taught about what it means to be a good father and how to love. Although it suffered low ticket sales, fans of romantic comedies should keep it in mind.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Dec. 14
This fantasy adventure film from the director of Lord of the Rings stars Ian McKellan as Gandalf and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. In the film, Bilbo journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a group of dwarves to reclaim stolen treasure. Any Lord of the Rings fan is sure to enjoy this new film.
Les Miserables: Dec. 25
This classic musical drama is finally coming to the big screen. This recreation of the Broadway musical shows the effects of the French Revolution. The film stars Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, a man who has been hunted by a ruthless policeman, Javert (Russell Crowe), after breaking parole decades before. Valjean has started a new life working as a factory owner and offers to raise Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), the daughter of a young, poor factory worker named Fantine (Anne Hathaway). The songs in the film where recorded live, which makes it different than most movie-musicals. The film is great for any romance or music lover.
