Gift giving tips for Secret Santa
December 4, 2012
Buying gifts for family and friends can be tricky enough, but buying for a Secret Santa recipient can sometimes seem impossible.
Secret Santa is a popular gift-giving activity for coworkers, players on a sports team or other group members. Picking a gift for a Secret Santa might be more difficult if you don’t really know the person you are giving a gift to.
Most Secret Santa events have a limit on how much you should spend. If you’re looking for a gift under a certain price range, here are some of my suggestions.
1. Gift Basket
You can never go wrong with these. Find out what your Secret Santa recipient’s favorite things are by asking his or her friends or family members. You can mix and match all types of things like lotions, perfume, coffee, food, magazines, or DVDs.
2. Accessories
Things like scarves, bags and hats are quick and easy gifts. Take a look at your recipient’s style, and try to find things that could complete a perfect outfit.
3. Music
If your recipient is into music, think about expanding his or her music library. Gifts like CDs and iTunes gift cards are simple gestures that could please any music lover.
4. Gift Cards
If you can find out what your recipient’s favorite store is, this is a golden gift. If he or she likes to shop at a certain store or eat at a certain restaurant, these are perfect. Be careful, though, because some people would prefer a more personal present.
5. Books
If your recipient is a reader, a new book may be the perfect option. If you know his or her favorite genre, you can go into a bookstore and find something he or she may enjoy reading. If this person is into cooking, a cookbook would be a great option.
6. Sporting Items
Find out what your recipient’s favorite team is, and feel free to go wild. Any type of sporting item will do. Whether it is clothing, magnets or signs, he or she will love anything that has to do with his or her favorite team. If your recipient is more into the outdoor type of sport, consider something that has to do with fishing, camping or hunting. Even a book about fishing lures or great places to hike in your area will work.
7. Personalized Items
People always like things they can call their own. An item like a personalized mug might be a good choice for a daily coffee drinker.
8. Work Items
If you’re working in an office, think about things your recipient might need for work. Things like sticky notes, pens or a designed flash drive could be useful to add to a gift basket for your recipient.
