Songs to cheer you up in gloomy weather

By Sarah Contreras

This weird transitional weather has me down. It’s gray, it’s drizzly and it gets dark at 5 p.m.

I’m a big fan of breaking out my scarves and hats, but I need a little sun to counter the frost. We’ve been handed some considerably dark and dreary days lately, and my happy-o-meter is leaning toward E.

I’ve tried a number of pick-me-ups on the gray days: I have a vase of orange tulips on my coffee table, I’ve poured lemonade and consumed ice cream cones, I’ve made my bedroom smell like the beach. None of it has really worked.

Then I realized I’ve been going about it all wrong. The only thing that really ever perks me up is music (and a plate of pasta). So I made a playlist of songs that are as comforting as a cup of hot cocoa or a pumpkin-scented candle. I know I can’t be the only one suffering from the blahs, so I’ve decided to share it with you. Curl up with your either your favorite book, your kitten, your paramour or a cup of tea (or all four) and enjoy.
