Baxter, Roddy names NIU Scholar-Athletes

This week’s recipients of the NIU Scholar-Athletes of the Week award are senior defensive end Alan Baxter and sophomore outside hitter MacKenzie Roddy.

Baxter played a significant role in the Huskies’ MAC West clinching 31-24 victory over Toledo Wednesday night.

On the night, he recorded four tackles and sacked quarterback Terrance Owens for a total of one and a half times.

Baxter and the defensive line applied constant pressure for Toledo’s offensive line and its backfield all night. They helped the defense hold the talented Rockets offense to 24 points and also forced four turnovers.

He is majoring in finance and has a GPA of 3.613.

Roddy helped orchestrate a run to the MAC Championship game for volleyball. It was the third straight year volleyball reached the MAC Championship game.

Against Akron in the first round, Roddy recorded a team-high 15 kills and 16.5 points in a 3-1 win.

In the second round against Ohio, she helped the Huskies upset the No. 1-seeded Bobcats as she registered 17 kills, two block assists and 18 points.

The Huskies fell short to Bowling Green in the finals, but Roddy totaled 15 points in the loss.

Roddy is an accountancy major and carries a 3.893 GPA.
