November 27, 2012
For his performance in the Huskies 49-7 crushing defeat over the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Friday, sophomore wide receiver/kick returner TommyLee Lewis was named the MAC West Specialist of the Week.
After the Eagles tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter, Lewis answered right back for the Huskies when he returned a kickoff for a 93-yard touchdown.
It was the first kickoff return for Lewis and the Huskies this season and the third for Lewis in his career. With the three kickoff returns for touchdowns, Lewis broke the record for most kickoff returns for a touchdown in a career.
On the season, Lewis is averaging 25 yards per return on 21 attempts this season. Still early in his career, Lewis already ranks fourth in NIU history in kick return yards with 1,281 on 51 returns.
Lewis had previously been named MAC West Specialist of the Week last season for his performance against Toledo, when he returned two kickoffs for a touchdown.
The Huskies have had a player named as a MAC West Player of the Week 12 out of 13 weeks this season and Lewis becomes the seventh different Huskies to win an award.
