Women’s Resource Center hosts event on juggling responsibilities

Attendees discussed how they managed the pressure of juggling their obligations at an event Tuesday.

Dealing with the Cards You Were Dealt was the latest event in the Hot Topic Tuesday series hosted by the Women’s Resource Center. The event, which was held in the Stevenson Towers South Fishbowl Room, was about discussing how to balance school activities and social lives.

Jailon Berry, a staff assistant and sophomore nursing major who hosted the event, said the purpose of the event wasn’t solely for the audience to learn time management from him. He said it was also for him to learn from the audience.

Guest Speaker Barb Coppett, who works in counseling, asked attendees to evaluate the roles they play and how they should balance those roles. She said people could know how to evaluate and balance their roles by seeing the whole picture of their lives. Coppett said she looks at the context of a person’s environment that impacts them.

Freshmen business major Philemon Bromby said he went to the event as a member of the Black Male Initiatives (BMI). He said the BMI happens to have problems with time management.

“Trying to plan in advance doesn’t work for me, but this discussion supplied me a lot of different methods of staying organized to try like sticky notes,” Bromby said. “I would recommend those with time management problems to go to the next one.”

Junior psychology major Brumentha Bony said she recommends relaxing.

“I learned to relax and know to make leisure time for myself,” Bony said.
