Lt. Gov. Simon to visit NIU Friday
November 12, 2012
Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will promote affordable higher education at NIU this Friday, according to NIU Today.
Simon will visit the Latino Resource Center (LRC) and meet several students, including LRC intern Noemi Rodriguez, according to NIU Today. Simon is urging state, federal and higher education leaders to collaborate on keeping college affordable, according to NIU Today. Simon has been touring colleges and has outlined three ways they can work together to make college affordable.
According to NIU Today, Simon supports a bill which requires all degree-granting institutions that work in Illinois to publish online College Choice Reports. She also supports strengthening of the Monetary Award Program and tax relief for middle class families.
Simon’s goal is to stabilize the cost for public universities and community colleges. The tuition and fee increases have outpaced inflation, family income and available aid over the past 20 years, according to NIU Today.
