NIU Mortar Board Society Pleiades chapter receives award

The NIU Pleiades chapter was recognized at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference, according to a Mortar Board press release.

The Pleiades chapter received the Silver Torch Award. The honor is given to chapters that execute timeliness and dedication while showing the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service, according to the Mortar Board. Silver Torch Award recipients are chosen based on national records.

Chapter president John Price and vice president Kathryn Maver accepted the chapter’s award, according to the Mortar Board.

The Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service, according to the Mortar Board. The society has grown from four to 229 chartered collegiate chapters since its founding in 1918.

The Mortar Board provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.
