Firefighters wear blue, pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 22, 2012
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to show their support, the entire Sycamore Fire Department will be wearing special T-shirts. They are blue with the traditional pink ribbon with pink lettering that says Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation entwined with the firefighters motto of Pride and Honor.
“The chiefs allow us to wear them on-duty,” said Sycamore Firefighter Michael Anderson. “We just try to help out the community.”
These shirts are available for purchase annually during downtown Sycamore’s Ladies’ Night Out and during the DeKalb Relay for Life event.
All proceeds are donated to breast cancer research. In June, the department participated in “Hug a Hunk” which sells hugs and donates the money raised.
“We sell the shirts through the Fire Union. They cost $10. Half of that money goes toward making the shirts and the other $5 gets donated,” said Sycamore Firefighter Adam Honiotes. “If anyone wants a shirt contact your local fire department.”
