While fall sports are still in full swing, NIU men’s and women’s basketball’s season’s are quickly approaching.

Fans will get their first chance to check out this season’s squads Friday, as NIU will host the Huskie Hoops Preview from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

Fans will be able to watch the last hour of women’s basketball practice and then will be able to stick around for the first hour of men’s basketball practice.

Not only will fans get to attend both practices, they also get to meet the players and coaches from both teams and pick their seats for the season.

As far as men’s basketball goes, head coach Mark Montgomery enters his second season as head coach. He returns with his top five scorers from a season ago, as the team looks to build on last season’s 5-26 record and go further in the MAC tournament.

As for women’s basketball, head coach Kathi Bennett is entering her third season at NIU after signing a contract extension through 2017. The Huskies reached the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament last season for the first time since 2007 and have eight players returning from last season’s squad.

Last season, Bennett had the Huskies ranked top four in the league in scoring defense, opponent field goal percentage, opponent three-point percentage and defensive rebounding.
