Amir, Angelos named NIU Scholar-Athletes

This week’s recipients of NIU’s Scholar-Athletes of the week are Dor Amir of men’s tennis and Sarah Angelos of volleyball.
Amir competed in the Tom Fallon Invitational over the weekend, facing nationally-ranked competition from schools like Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and Alabama.
Against these schools, Amir went 2-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles play. In singles, he defeated Ken Sabacinki (6-2, 6-1) and Ryan Bandy (6-2, 6-3) of Notre Dame.
In doubles play, Amir teamed up with Jovan Zeljkovic to take down the Alabama duo of Harris Barnard and Stuart Kenyon, 9-7.
Amir majors in business management and carries a 3.467 GPA.
This is Angelos’ second time receiving this award this season, as she led the Huskies in hitting percentage for the week at .459 percent.
She recorded 19 kills and two errors on 37 swings in two three-set matches. She recorded nine kills in her match against Western Michigan and was one kill better in a sweep of Miami (Ohio).
Angelos is majoring in business administration and maintains a GPA of 3.379.
