Re:New DeKalb is wrapping up construction projects until spring but has many events planned for the rest of the year.

This week, weather permitting, landscaping will be installed in the Pond and Ferguson public parking lots. Public improvements such as new concrete sidewalks, resurfaced pavement and new lighting have been made over the last few months. Construction in these lots is on schedule according to Lindsey Engelsman, marketing and special events coordinator. Landscaping this week includes new trees, bushes and planters in these lots. Construction will begin again in the spring.

Re:New DeKalb is hosting many events this fall and winter for the community. The fall season kicks off with the Downtown DeKalb Trick or Treat Spooktacular, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Over 40 businesses will be open for trick or treating, and candy is donated by Nestle. The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will have a crafting event and the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., will be offering a kid-friendly, “bite-sized” tour of their haunted house.

Children should be dressed in costume and accompanied by an adult for all events that day.

“It’s a great time for families to come together, check out downtown and see what’s going on,” said Engelsman. “It’s a chance to create great family traditions.”

The Downtown DeKalb Hollyday Open House sales will be held the weekend of November 16. Select stores will be open until 9 p.m. for a sneak preview of holiday sales as merchants host holiday open houses.

Other events in November and December include Santa Comes to Town, Horse drawn carriage rides and Visit with Santa.

According to the Re:New DeKalb website, their vision is “essential to ensure economic prosperity and a high quality of life for all DeKalb area residents.”
