Accident survivor to give speech
October 1, 2012
A mountain climber who survived an accident will give a presentation to NIU students, said accountancy professor Don Tidrick in an email.
Jim Davidson will speak to accountancy students at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Barsema Auditorium.
Davidson is a world-class mountain climber who broke through the snow after returning from the summit of Mount Rainier, Tidrick said. He fell 80 feet into a crevasse and hit a ledge that prevented him from falling further.
His climbing partner also suffered injuries after trying to break Davidson’s fall. Davidson managed to climb the 80-foot wall of ice with limited equipment and no assistance, Tidrick said.
The presentation is limited to accountancy students and the auditorium is limited to 375 seats, Tidrick said.
