NIU to host author as part of grief series
October 14, 2012
Chi Sigma Iota and the NIU Counseling Association have teamed up to host a series on grief in hopes of raising awareness of the topic.
The organizations are presenting a two-part series entitled Two Perspectives on Grief. The second event will be a presentation by author and NIU student Kelly Farley, who will discuss his book, Grieving Dads: To the Brink and Back, which details his experiences with loss and the grieving process. The presentation with Farley will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Graham Hall, Room 423. All are welcome to attend, and his book will be available for purchase. Farley will also hand out 10 free copies of his book to the first attendees.
Both Chi Sigma Iota and the NIU Counseling Association hope this event will help to raise awareness toward grief and the ways in which it can be handled. Both organizations hope to bring about discussion on the stigmatization of the grief process, which is a main point in Farley’s book.
The first event of the series was a discussion with grief expert Delinda Grindle, who spoke on the grieving process of children and their methods.
Farley is set to discuss his story of losing two children and how he came to grieve. Topics will also include what Farley has learned about society and how it handles men who grieve.
