Secretary of State’s office reminds citizens to beware of scams
September 17, 2012
Secretary of State Jesse White’s office is warning all businesses to beware of a scam targeting Illinois corporations.
A person allegedly belonging to Corporate Records Service is contacting Illinois businesses to collect a $125 fee to fill out an “Annual Minutes Records Form.” The Illinois Business Corporation Act doesn’t require corporations to file a “Minutes Records Form” or pay any sort of fee with the state or a private entity. The only fee that corporations must pay is the fee that is paid with their annual report. White said the form the entity Corporate Records Service is sending out looks similar to the Secretary of State’s annual report form. He recommends corporations don’t reply to the solicitation and to call 312-814-2201 if you have been a victim of the scam.
