By Northern Star Staff

The NIU homecoming parade will be held Oct. 12, according to a Student Involvement and Leadership Development (SILD) press release.

The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end with a community bonfire at 7 p.m., according to SILD. The parade is sponsored by SILD and the Campus Activities Board (CAB).

The new parade route has been made more campus-friendly, according to SILD. The new route begins at the Huskie Stadium and goes through Lucinda Avenue, Russell Road, Greenbrier Road, Blackhawk Drive and Ridge Drive. The parade route then goes down Normal Road before going past the Campus Life Building. The route ends with a bonfire at the Anderson Lot.

Participants who want to be in the parade must apply by Oct. 5. Organizations that choose to participate in the parade must pay a $20 fee. Participants must also attend a mandatory meeting on Oct. 9.

On Sept. 27, a free float decorating training class will be held at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Room in the Holmes Student Center.
