After a disappointing season opener against Iowa, NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch has proven over the last two weeks that he can be an effective weapon in the passing game.

In week one against Iowa, the Huskies offense seemed as if it would be one-dimensional, getting little production through the air as Lynch completed just six passes for 54 yards.

The Tennessee-Martin game last week showed that Lynch had a strong arm and could move the ball through the air, as he recorded 214 yards passing to go along with one touchdown.

This week, Lynch left no questions about his ability to lead the offense through the air and Army found out firsthand just how good of a quarterback Lynch is.

Lynch posted career numbers against the Black Knights, going 18-27 for 342 yards through the air while connecting on four touchdowns.

His 69-yard touchdown pass to TommyLee Lewis in the second quarter, which is his longest career pass, really showed off his arm strength.

Lynch seemed extremely comfortable throwing fade routes to Martel Moore, who was Lynch’s favorite receiver against Army, recording a team-high seven catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Another question Lynch answered was how he could handle pressure late in-games. Trailing 35-40 in the fourth quarter, Lynch constructed a 13-play, 72-yard drive which eventually ended in an eight-yard touchdown pass to Moore with 4:29 remaining in the game.

With Lynch’s improvement through the air since the beginning of the season, the Huskies’s offense looks anything but one-dimensional at this point.

NIU can strike in a variety of ways which will lead to many defenses being off balance, which in turn will allow the Huskies to take advantage of them and put a lot of points on the scoreboard.
