Engineering workshops start on Saturdays

Engineering workshops will be offered to all girls from sixth to eighth grade, according to a Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois press release.
The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois and the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology are teaming up to offer twelve Saturday workshops and a summer camp for girls, according to the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. Girls will be working in small groups to explore various engineering projects like building simple electrical circuits, bridge building, chemical engineering and lean simulation.
NIU female faculty, engineering undergraduates and high school mentors will assist the girls, according to the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.
Girls can apply for the program by completing an application form and attaching a copy of their last quarter’s report card. Applicants should also submit a sealed letter of recommendation from a math, science or technology teacher, according to the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.

NIU will notify applicants of acceptance during the week of Oct. 15.
