Alex Jones was recognized for his efforts as he was named MAC West Player of the Week, according to a press release.
The Huskies’ shortstop had seven hits in 14 at-bats, along with three walks and an on-base percentage of .714.
The Kansas City, Kan., native was smooth in the field, as he had no errors, nine assists and six putouts.
Jones’ helped lead NIU to a 10-5 victory over Akron Friday, going 3-for-4 at the dish, with four RBI, a run, one stolen base and a walk.
Jones is the first NIU player to earn the weekly award this season.
White, Dekkinga earn NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week
Troy White and Haley Dekkinga’s weekend performances helped them earn the NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week award.
White, NIU baseball’s third baseman, was prolific at the plate against Akron. The senior had five RBI, a home run and three runs. White batted .313, going 5-for-16.
Dekkinga, a member of NIU women’s tennis, was almost perfect in her matches, with a record of 4-0 in singles and doubles play, losing two sets over the weekend. Dekkinga currently has nine wins this spring, a career-high, earned win over Valparaiso’s Michele Fredlake and Western Illinois’ Jessica Theobald.
