Criminal Law Society to host Innocence Panel
April 2, 2012
The Criminal Law Society will host an Innocence Panel at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom in Swen Parson Hall.
Those in attendance will discuss the case of Juan Rivera. Rivera was wrongfully convicted for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl and spent nearly 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. His conviction was overturned in December 2011 based on crime scene evidence and recovered DNA. Rivera was released in Janaury 2012.
Rivera will speak at the panel, as will law alumna Stacey Mandell and other officials.
A reception will follow the event in the Marshall Gallery.
