Starbusters cited for liquor violation
April 23, 2012
Starbusters Bar and Grill, 930 Pappas Drive, was fined for a violation which occurred Feb. 11 when a minor was allowed entrance and served alcohol.
Starbusters owner Nick Tsiftilis was issued a $1,000 fine and must update training for servers and managers.
Kris Povlsen, DeKalb mayor and liquor commissioner, said he tries to keep lawyers and court hearings out of the situation and most people are willing to simply pay their fines and avoid dealing with the courts.
Povlsen said further violations at Starbusters would lead to higher fines, the revocation of their liquor license, and, finally, the foreclosure of the bar.
He said he does not foresee a foreclosure in the bar’s future, however.
“Many underage students try to sneak into bars and it’s probably going to happen at some point,” Povlsen said. “They have corrected their mistake and they will continue to move forward.”
Tsiftillis settled out of court and signed a fine order with the city attorney March 30.
