After his 4-0 record versus Valparaiso and IUPUI, NIU’s Axel Lagerlof was named MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the week, according to a press release.

Lagerlof‘s four victories came in No. 1 singles and doubles play against Valpo’ and IUPUI.

The Malmo, Sweden native paired with fellow Huskies Dor Amir to defeat Valparaiso’s Chris Baum and Adam Whitmer 8-4. NIU’s tandem then went on to defeat IUPUI’s Luke Bielawski and Patrick O’Neill, 8-5.

In singles sets, Lagerlof won his matches in straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3 over Baum, while also defeating Nick Volz 6-0 and 6-3.

The 2011 MAC Newcomer of the Year has an overall record 6-2 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles.

This is the first time Lagerlof has received the weekly award. The last Huskie to be given the honor was Maksym Bartiuk last season on Feb. 23, 2011.
