Mark Orozco’s attorney requested a later court date for continuing negotiations at a status hearing Wednesday.

Orozco is one of the NIU students charged in the April 5, 2011 shooting of NIU linebacker Devon Butler.

Orozco is charged with three counts of attempted murder with intent to kill or injure, two counts of armed violence and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm: all of which are class X felonies. Class X felonies have a mandatory minimum sentence of six to 30 years in prison.

Orozco is also being charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, which is a class one felony, and one count of manufacturing or delivery of cannabis, which is a class four felony. A class one felony has a sentence of four to 15 years in prison and a class four has one to three years in prison. All classes have fines up to $25,000.

Orozco’s next court date is March 7.
