Two NIU softball’s players garnered MAC Weekly award honors for this week.

Huskies pitcher Megan Dortch landed MAC West Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Stephanie Tofft earned Player of the Week honors, according to a press release.

After an outstanding freshman season, Tofft batted .611, going 11-of-18 with a pair of home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored in the Huskies first five games of 2012. The sophomore went 3-for-4 against Nicholls State, slugging two home runs, five RBIs and two runs scored. During the five-game stretch, Tofft had three multi-hit games, highlighted by a 4-4 effort versus UT-Martin.

While Tofft was effective at the plate, Dortch followed her teammate with strong performances in the pitching circle.

NIU’s freshman pitcher posted an overall record of 3-1 and striking out 25 opposing batters. Tofft officially got her feet wet in the college softball by coming in as a relief pitcher against Souther. She’d answer her first call by shutting out Souther while pitching two-and-a-third innings of relief. Dortch struck out three, walked two and allowed one hit to Southern.

The following day, Dortch made her first career collegiate start and pitched five innings, six strike outs and four walks against Nicholls State.
