Daughtry not over in DeKalb

The Convocation Center’s spring concert schedule just got a little bit fuller.

Former American Idol standout and RCA recording artist Chris Daughtry will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 7 at the Convocation Center, 1525 Lincoln Highway.

The North Carolinian singer-songwriter performs a melodic brand of alternative rock and is most recognized by his rough vocals and big guitar hooks.

Tickets go on sale Friday and can be purchased at the Convocation Center box office, Ticketmaster.com, or any Ticketmaster outlet. All seats are reserved and cost $34, $37, or $41. Students who present a valid OneCard and purchase their ticket at the Convocation Center box office receive a $5 discount (limit two).

Daughtry is touring in support of his 2011 release Break the Spell, which received positive reviews and boasts singles “Renegade” and “Crawling Back to You.”

“We recorded a hard-hitting rock album that is primed to blow the doors off these great theatres,” Daughtry said in a Convocation Center press release. “Fans who come out are going to get an incredible show every night.”

Daughtry gained notoriety in 2006 when he finished in fourth place during American Idol’s fifth season.

Break the Spell is Daughtry’s third release since his stint on Idol. Daughtry’s self-titled 2006 release and 2009’s Leave This Town were received well by critics and featured singles like “Home,” which won a People’s Choice Award in 2008 for “Favorite Rock Song.”

Opening acts for the concert have not been announced yet.
