The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Thursday
At 1:47 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle in the 1500 block of West Lincoln Highway speeding and drifting over the lane markers. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found the driver, Melissa A. Hart, 32, of Waterman, appeared to be intoxicated. Hart gave the officer a false name and was found to have a revoked driver’s license for prior DUIs and an active warrant. Hart was charged with driving under the influence, driving while license revoked, no insurance, improper lane use, speeding, obstructing identification and failure to appear warrant. Hart was placed under arrest and later released on bond.
At 9:17 a.m., DeKalb police were dispatched to the 500 block of Normal Road to check on a 6 year old who was left home alone. When police arrived, they found two children home alone. Hayat S. Esmaeel, 27, of DeKalb was charged with endangering the life of a child.
At 7:59 p.m., DeKalb police on patrol ran a registration check on a Nissan in the 1000 block of North Annie Glidden Road, and found it to be expired. Police initiated a traffic stop and discovered the driver, Jasmine C. Winston, 18, of DeKalb, had a suspended driver’s license. Winston was placed under arrest and later released on bond.
At 7:15 p.m., DeKalb police responded to University Village for a report of domestic trouble. A female caller said she and her boyfriend had been arguing earlier in the day. The boyfriend, Jerus A. Jackson, 25, of Chicago returned to his girlfriend’s apartment and kicked the door, damaging it. Jackson fled the area and was later found by another officer. Jackson was charged with criminal trespass to real property and possession of cannabis.
Friday
At 12:45 a.m., DeKalb police observed a vehicle traveling on Lincoln Highway with an expired registration sticker. The officer initiated a traffic stop and learned the driver, Curtis R. Czubakowski, 46, of Geneva, had no valid license. Czubakowski was able to post bond on the street and contact a valid driver to recover the vehicle.
Saturday
At 1:45 a.m., DeKalb police on patrol in the block of 100 North Second Street observed a vehicle leaving city lot two. The vehicle was stopped waiting to turn right and saw the driver, Matthew R. McMeekan, 23, of Oregon, looking southbound but the driver never looked northbound to check for oncoming traffic. As the officer approached the driver’s location, the vehicle entered the roadway causing the officer to brake to avoid an accident. The officer initiated a traffic stop. McMeekan was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, improper lane usage and failure to yield.
At 2:37 a.m., DeKalb police initiated a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Pleasant Street, on a vehicle for improper lane usage and no seat belt. Upon making contact with the driver, Kelsey E. Kennedy-Larkin, 19, of DeKalb, the officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. Kennedy-Larkin was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and over 0.08, driving with a license suspended, unlawful consumption of alcohol, improper lane usage and no seat belt. She was arrested and transported to the DeKalb Police Department.
At 5:58 p.m., DeKalb police on patrol in the 2700 block of Sycamore Road ran a registration check on a vehicle and found the registered owner, Sue Ann Denson, 32, of DeKalb, had a failure to appear warrant for operating an uninsured vehicle out of Peoria County. The officer initiated a traffic stop and after speaking with the driver discovered the passenger identified herself as Denson. Denson was transported to the police department, processed and released with a court date after posting bond.
At 7:50 p.m., DeKalb police on patrol ran a license plate check on a black Chrysler Sebring and found the owner of the vehicle had a license that had been expired for more than a year. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, Erik R. Noriega, 19, of DeKalb, confirmed to be the owner of the vehicle. Noriega was charged with driving with no valid driver’s license, arrested and later released on bond.
At 11:54 p.m., DeKalb police observed an improper lane infraction in the block of 300 East Lincoln Highway and initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of East Locust. The driver, Gabriel Oseas, 31, of DeKalb, could not produce any driver’s license or an insurance card. Oseas was charged with no valid driver’s license, no vehicle insurance and improper lane usage. Oseas was transported to the DeKalb Police Department to be processed, given a court date and released on bond.
