DeKALB | Some NIU students experienced problems accessing their class schedules through MyNIU Tuesday.

Walter Czerniak, associate vice president of Information Technology Services said this is a campus-wide problem, but individual students have been getting hung up in the system. Czerniak said a software bug or issue between MyNIU and the portal is causing the problem.

“The system is not down; it’s just working slowly or poorly,” Czerniak said. “Students shouldn’t assume that it won’t be working for days.”

Some students experienced a last minute surprise when they tried to access their schedules.

“The site just wouldn’t load all day,” said John Dunne, freshman computer science major. “I tried at least ten times, I didn’t know my schedule.”

Dunne was finally able to get through just before his class began.

“I finally got in,” Dunne said. “I barely made it. I had to run to class.”

Other students were less affected by the problem.

“I heard the server was down,” said Alex Johnson, sophomore electrical engineering technology major. “But I never had to use it. I printed out my schedule a few days ago.”

Czerniak said students should wait a few minutes and refresh the page and if the issue persists, call the ITS Helpdesk at 815-753-8100.

The ITS staff hoped to have the problem resolved by the end of the day Tuesday, Czerniak said.
