Autopsy reports reveal cause of student’s death
November 14, 2011
The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office received autopsy reports for a Waubonsee Community College student who died Sept. 25 in DeKalb.
DeKalb County coroner Dennis Miller said the autopsy for Christian Gaytan, 21, determined the cause of death was a cardiac arythmia due to alcohol abuse. A cardiac arythmia is an irregular heartbeat and not an uncommon condition, Miller said.
The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office said information regarding Gaytan’s death was not released sooner because the coroner’s office was waiting on autopsy and toxicology results to come in from an out-of-state facility.
Miller said Gaytan was pronounced dead at approximately 3:35 a.m. at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Drive. Gaytan was attending a party on Blackhawk Road at the time of the incident.
DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said the incident did not occur at a fraternity or sorority house on Blackhawk Road, but declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.
