City blotter for 11/28/11

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Wednesday
At 4:23 p.m., DeKalb Police checked the registration of a vehicle in traffic in the 400 block of East Lincoln Highway. The officer found the registered owner of the vehicle, Benjamin L. Elshoff, 23, of Creston, had a valid warrant for his arrest. The officer performed a traffic stop and found Elshoff was driving the vehicle. Elshoff was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.
At 7:26 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle without its headlights on in the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Gleidy G. Flores, 20, of DeKalb, did not have a valid driver’s license. Flores was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later released on bond.
At 9:17 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle with expired registration in the 100 block of North Annie Glidden Road. The officer performed a traffic stop and detected the odor of burnt cannabis inside the vehicle. The officer searched the driver, Adam M. Smith, 21, of Galesburg, and found a spoon and two hypodermic needles in Smith’s coat pocket. Smith was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station where he was searched again. The search found cannabis and a pipe hidden in Smith’s sock. Smith was booked and later released on bond.
Thursday
At 7:10 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle without its headlights on in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Celso Cervantes, 29, of DeKalb, did not have a valid driver’s license. Cervantes was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.
At 8:39 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle with no rear registration light in the 100 block of South Annie Glidden Road. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Brenda Donley, 48, of DeKalb, was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Donley was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later released on bond.
At 10:52 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a speeding vehicle in the 1700 block of Sycamore Road. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Juan J. Rodriguez, 36, of DeKalb, was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.
At 11:12 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle driving slowly in the 900 block of South Annie Glidden Road. The officer noticed the passenger in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. The officer performed a traffic stop and noticed two small children in the back seat of the vehicle who were not in child seats. A 7-year-old girl was observed wearing her seatbelt, and a 5-year-old boy was unrestrained in the back seat. The officer found the driver, Albert D. Owens, 65, of Chicago, has had a suspended driver’s license since 1986. Owens was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond. The passenger, Denise Killingsworth, 64, of Chicago, was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and released.
