Suspect in custody in connection with Nov. 2 home invasion

At 1:24 a.m. Nov. 2, DeKalb Police officers responded to an apartment in the 800 block of Greenbrier Road for a reported home invasion, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release.
According to the release, two tenants were home when two individuals entered the apartment with handguns. The individuals left with several electronic items.
The release states an investigation revealed a drug connection between one of the victims and the suspects. Evidence located near the scene led police to one individual, Coris L. Ashford, 18, of Maywood. According to the release, a warrant for Ashford’s arrest was issued on Nov. 3, charging him with armed robbery and home invasion, both class X felonies.
Ashford was arrested on Nov. 4. He was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and transported to DeKalb County Jail pending a bond hearing, the release states.
According to the release, due to the drug connection, police do not believe the incident was a random act. Police are continuing their investigation for the second suspect.
