Robbery suspect identified

DeKalb Police identified a man suspected of holding up two DeKalb businesses on Sept. 14.

According to a press release, a witness identified the suspect as Matthew Wade, 27, of Sycamore. The release states Wade is accused of attempting to rob El Burrito Loco, 185 W. Lincoln Highway. Wade allegedly entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee, implying he had a gun. The employee ran to the back of the restaurant and the suspect left without any money.

According to the release, Wade is also accused of holding up Lucky’s Tobacco, 110 E. Hillcrest Drive. The release states Wade allegedly entered the store and requested a carton of cigarettes, demanding money from the register as an employee rang up the sale. The release states Wade allegedly left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A warrant for Wade’s arrest was issued on Sept. 30. The release states Wade was served with the warrants at DeKalb County Jail where he was in custody for unrelated charges.

Wade is charged with attempted aggravated robbery: a class 2 felony, attempted robbery: a class 3 felony, aggravated robbery: a class X felony, and robbery: a class 2 felony.
