DeKalb pancake house does flapjacks ‘family-style’

Andy Ametti, owner and operator of Flappy’s Pancake House, 1406 Sycamore Road, worked in the restaurant business all his life.
Ametti, originally from Long Island, New York first started working in his family’s restaurant.
“I started going to school as an architect, but my family needed my help running the restaurant,” Ametti said.
Flappy’s Pancake House has been in DeKalb two years, Ametti said. He started it because he wanted to own a family restaurant.
“I am a family man, I have always loved a nice sit-down, family-style restaurant and it has always been a dream to own one and possibly a chain of them down the road,” Ametti said.
Ametti said he loves his restaurant’s location.
“I enjoy the variation of people that we see everyday in our restaurant, everyone from farmers to business people,” Ametti said. “We also love people’s spirit for NIU and the Huskies.”
Amber Hallock, server at Flappy’s Pancake House, said she loves working for Ametti.
“I love our customers and the people I work with,” Hallock said. “Andy is fair. He can be strict, but in a good way, and he is very easy to get along with.”
Ametti said when he is not working, he tries to spend as much time with his family as possible.
“I enjoy spending time with my family and catching the latest movie with them,” Ametti said. “I would love to take up golf some day, but just don’t have the time right now.”
