Rant: Head scratcher

By Matt Hopkinson

Way to use your head.

In the third quarter of Sunday’s contest between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles, cornerback Dunta Robinson laid a brutal head-to-head hit on wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

This is all too familiar, as last year Robinson made a head-to-head hit on DeSean Jackson, also of the Eagles. Both received concussions.

You would think that once you’ve injured yourself through your inadmissible and irresponsible tactics you would have learned your lesson.

Perhaps Robinson knocked something loose after that, or perhaps there wasn’t much up there to begin with.

Robinson received a $25,000 fine for his hit on Jackson last year. He was originally fined $50,000 but got it lowered through an appeal.

He was fined $40,000 by NFL Vice President Merton Hanks and also received a warning about repeat offenses.

On Tuesday, Robinson was fined $40,000 by the NFL.

If it were hockey, he’d be a goon: good for nothing and even worse for the NFL’s image.

The sooner he’s out of the league, the better, especially for his gameday opponents.
