Campus blotter for 9/21/11

Friday

  • At 1:11 a.m., an officer responded to the fourth floor of Douglas Hall B Wing regarding a possible fight. Upon arrival to the suspected room, the officer spoke with two roommates. Tyler Dittoe, 19, of Batavia, was arrested for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor and disorderly conduct. This case is cleared through adult arrest.
  • At 1:27 a.m., officers encountered an intoxicated student on the front steps of the main entrance to Douglas Hall who was under the age of 21. After verifying that she was OK, officers referred her to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
  • At 1:45 a.m., an officer observed an intoxicated student while patrolling the lobby in Grant North. After confirming the person was OK, the officer gave the underage student a verbal warning.
  • At 1:45 a.m., an officer conducting a building check of the ninth floor of Stevenson D Tower encountered five underage people in possession of alcohol. All received verbal warnings for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. A sixth student was given a verbal warning for furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor.
  • At 11 a.m., an officer responded to the lobby of the NIU Police Department regarding a theft report. Upon arrival, he met with a man who said he lost his wallet on a Huskie Bus. A short time later, the thief used his debit card at a local business. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 12:54 p.m., officers responded to a battery call at Stevenson Tower North. This case is pending further investigation.
  • At 1:30 p.m., an officer responded to the lobby of the NIU Police Department regarding a theft of an iPod Touch. A student reported her iPod Touch was taken during a birthday party in her residence hall. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 8:30 p.m., officers on patrol on the eighth floor of Stevenson A Tower encountered students playing a drinking game. Four students were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 10:44 p.m., an officer conducting a parking lot check of Lot V observed two vehicles, each with one window broken out. This case is pending investigation.

Saturday

  • At 1:24 a.m., officers encountered an intoxicated student at Grant South. After verifying she was OK, the officers gave her a verbal warning.
  • At 2:52 a.m., an officer on a building check of the Lincoln Hall Lobby encountered an intoxicated person. After verifying she was OK, the officer referred her to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 3:09 a.m., officers conducting a check of the NIU Convocation Center observed a suspicious vehicle. Contact with the occupants revealed an obnoxious odor consisted with the odor of cannabis. Further contact resulted in Nicolas Bibbs, 19, of Dolton, under arrest for possession of cannabis. Another person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.
  • At 3:19 a.m., an officer in Douglas Hall observed an intoxicated student. Contact with that student revealed he was under the age of 21. After verifying the student was OK, the officer referred him to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 3 p.m., officers responded to the Grant South cafeteria for a report of a fight. After speaking with the parties involved and dining staff, it was determined that two students became involved in a verbal altercation over an order of mozzarella sticks, becoming so heated that multiple calls to 911 were made. Both students were referred to Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for disorderly conduct.
  • At 9:10 p.m., an officer conducting a lot check of NIU Lot 44 observed a vehicle with its passenger side window broken. The officer contacted the vehicle’s owner who revealed that nothing appeared to have been taken. Due to no leads and no suspects, this case is administratively closed.
  • At 9:10 p.m., an officer conducting a lot check of NIU Lot 44 observed a vehicle with its passenger side window broken. The officer contacted the vehicle’s owner who revealed that an iPod Touch had been taken. Due to no leads and no suspects, this case is administratively closed.
  • At 9:10 p.m., an officer conducting a lot check of NIU Lot 44 observed a vehicle with its driver side window broken. The officer contacted the vehicle’s owner who revealed that nothing appeared to have been taken. Due to no leads and no suspects, this case is administratively closed.
  • At 10:30 p.m., an officer conducting a building check of the second floor of Douglas Hall D Wing smelled an odor consistent with the smell of burnt cannabis. The officer contacted the people inside the room, who produced cannabis. One person was given a verbal warning for possession of cannabis.
  • At 11:20 p.m., officers responded to the 11th floor of Stevenson B Tower regarding an odor consistent with the smell of cannabis. They contacted the occupants of the suspected room, which resulted in one person being given a verbal warning and the other person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

Sunday

  • At 1:19 a.m., an officer responded to the fifth floor of Douglas Hall C Wing at Douglas regarding an intoxicated student. That student, who was under the legal drinking age of 21, was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • From 7:33 to 7:42 a.m., an officer on patrol of the Parking Deck found the window of four vehicles broken. These cases are pending investigation.
  • At 4:16 p.m., an officer assisted a student who locked his keys in the car. When the officer unlocked the car and opened the door, he smelled and saw cannabis sitting in the vehicle. The student was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 9 p.m., an officer responded to the 11th floor of Stevenson B Towers regarding of the smell of burnt cannabis on the floor. Upon arrival, the officer confirmed the presence of an obnoxious odor consistent with cannabis emanating from a particular room. The officer contacted the occupant of that room and confirmed he had smoked cannabis in the room. The offender produced a pipe used for smoking cannabis. He was then referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 11:17 p.m., an officer conducting a building check of the 12th floor of Grant B Tower observed an intoxicated student exited a room and stumbled in the hallway. Officers contacted that student and revealed smelled alcohol on him. The student was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Conduct along with two others in his room.

Monday

  • At 11:28 a.m., an officer responded to the Neptune East lobby area for the report of a theft. Upon arrival, he met with a man who said someone stole his gray hooded sweatshirt. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 1:46 p.m., an officer responded to the NIU Police Department to take a theft report. Complainant stated that on Aug. 7, someone stole her one attaché Fossil bag. Due to the time delay in reporting this and no leads or suspects, this case is administratively closed.
  • At 5:42 p.m., an officer responded to the third floor of Stevenson North C Tower regarding theft of items. A man said someone stole some video games from his room. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 10:47 p.m., an officer responded to Douglas Hall concerning a theft report. Upon arrival, he met with a woman who stated she left her cellular phone outside the entrance to Douglas Hall and upon her return, her phone was missing. This case is open pending investigation.
