A surprise reception will be held for a soldier from Sycamore Sunday.

Army Specialist Michael J. Hutsler will arrive in Sycamore Sunday around 10:30 a.m. The reception, which is open to the public, will be held at the Sycamore Veterans Home, 121 S. California St.

“The reception is an open house,” said Micheal’s mother Donna Hutsler. “People can just come in to chat with him. It’s about everyone getting together to see him.”

Motorcyclists interested in participating are invited to meet by 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the old DeKalb Clinic, 165 E. Plank Road in Sycamore. Motorcyclists will provide an escort for Michael Hutsler.

“I am a veteran and years ago, veterans during Vietnam didn’t get welcomed home,” said Frank Beierlotzer, motorcycle escort. “I just want to make sure they get welcomed home.”

Michael Hutsler joined the Army after graduating from Sycamore High School in 2009, about a month after turning 18. After attending basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., Michael trained as Calvary Scout in Fort Hood, Texas and became a member of the 3rd ACR Brave Rifles, stated a press release.

Michael Hutsler currently serves at Fort Hood, after a 12-month tour of duty in Iraq which started in August last year.

In addition to being in the military, Michael has other interests as well.

“He loves cars and working on them,” Donna Hutsler said.

Donna also said Michael enjoys fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.

“He’s the greatest kid in the world,” Donna Hutsler said. “He enjoys being with people and doing things for others.”
